Warnings have been issued around dive clubs and dive centres to divers regarding Luxfer 6351 scuba tanks. Most dive centres in New England will no longer fill these tanks. Check your tank and if it is suspect, drain it now. For safety reasons, divers are committed to getting these tanks off the market. Thousands of tanks nationwide have already been taken out of service.
Facts from the Luxfer website:
- Of the more than 40-million all-aluminium cylinders manufactured by various companies over the last 45 years, only 20 SLC-related or suspected-SLC ruptures have been reported to regulatory authorities around the world. All these ruptures were in cylinders made from 6351 alloy.
- Of these ruptures, 12 have been scuba cylinders.
