Author Bio: Nicolas Danan

Niko was born in Nimes in the south of France. He spent most of his summer swimming and discovering the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea teaming up with his cousin who had the same passion, to go freediving. Always attracted by the “big blue” and falling in love with the “Calanques” near Marseille, he decided to find a career that would link him to the Ocean and later became a Scuba and nitrox instructor. Looking for a more peaceful and quiet way to “glide down” he later became a rebreather diver and finally got back to his childhood love: apnea.

Niko was also associated with a start up of a non-profit organization for the preservation of the coral reef in Panama where he spent a year and half.   He is always on the move from Santa Fe, New Mexico where he is right now, (getting more into Yoga and Pranayama) to the south of France and Panama .  He is actually training on monofin swimming thanks to the great article by Peter Scott.  He is also planning to go back to Panama soon, making a stop by Baja California to train and learn more with Aaron and M.T Solomon’s.  Always ready to pick up his fins and go, loves to learn about other cultures and other “ways”, he is a chocoholic and believes in mermaids!
