Author Bio: Stephan Whelan

 

Stephan is the founder, CEO and publisher of DeeperBlue.net

Born in sunny London on 5th September 1978 and grew up in the South-East of England. His exposure to diving came about during a family holiday as a pre-teenager. A "try-dive" in the hotel pool soon formulated into a passion for the underwater world and progressed rapidly once at secondary school.

During University he went on to run the Scuba Diving club of over 100 members and spend more time teaching in the water than learning in the lecture hall.

Around this time he setup DeeperBlue.net with the aim of publishing his experiences in the underwater world. This was a very personal project but it soon grew to encompass other authors and then editors.

He is a BSAC trained Dive Leader and has completed over 1,500 dives in various places around the world, although confesses that the Red Sea is his favourite haunt. In 2003, after many years of hesitation, he completed a 2 day FreeDiving course in Plymouth, UK.

In "real-life" he divides his time between running DeeperBlue.net and his day job at a Content Management Software company (that's stuff to do with the internet for non-techies!).
