Author Bio: Kaori Mitani

 

Kaori Mitani is a travel journalist born and raised in Japan. After years' experience editing travel and guide books in Japan, she relocated to the Big Island, Hawaii in 1999. Since then she has contributed to number of Japanese travel, nature and fashion magazines as a writer and photographer, including SONY magazines, Elle Japon, Harper's Bazaar, Aloha Airlines inflight magazine.

An outdoor enthusiast based in one of the world's famous freediving hot-spots, Kaori has connected with top notch freedivers and the sport itself to become one of Japan's leading figures in freediving journalism. She is frequently involved in event and media coordination, and was a media liaison crew-member at the Freediving Pacific Cup of 2002.

Between travel and deadlines, Kaori spends time swimming, horse-riding, strumming the cello and photographing about Hawaii's nature for her independent projects.
